Tips on straightening your hair

Tips on straightening your hair

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a blind date, a girls’ night out or lunch with your mother, the fact is that your hair should look fabulous. Unfortunately, we don’t all have model hair that just magically set itself in the style we want. If you were thinking of straightening your hair, you should take a look at these tips. I’ll help you to straighten your hair in the best way possible, regardless of your hair’s natural style.

If you have curly hair, it’s a good idea to hydrate your natural curls by using a shampoo and conditioner with moisturizing elements. This will keep your hair from getting too frizzy. Follow these two up with a leave-in conditioner that you apply all over and apply a bit of styling lotion to the ends. Flip your hair forward and blow dry until it’s just damp. Instead of using a flat iron, use a big round brush and dry your hair section by section. Then, just to lock in some shine, use a flat-iron on the top section of your hair. Secret tip: Wear your straightened hair with a side part – the extra weight on one side will keep your hair from getting puffy by the end of the day.

If your hair is wavy, start with a rich shampoo and conditioner. Concentrate the conditioner on the ends of your hair where it is the driest. Flip your hair forward and blow dry until it’s about three-quarters dry. Use a big round brush to blow dry your hair section by section, starting from the front of your head. When you’re done, comb a small bit of wax through your hair and use your flat-iron on the top section of your hair.

Now you might find it funny that I include straightening tips for girls with straight hair, but even pin-straight hair requires effort before it looks smooth and sleek. Start with a shine-enhancing shampoo and conditioner. Afterwards, apply a light leave-in conditioner to your hair with a spritzer and blow dry your hair until it is almost completely dry. Then smooth on a few drops of silicone serum and finish blow drying your hair with a paddle brush.

Some general tips from the Face 2 Face secret archives:

• Use a 1500 to 1800 watt hair dryer for the sleekest result. Anything less powerful allows your cuticles to curl up while you’re blow drying.

• When dividing your hair into sections, make sure one section isn’t more than an inch (about 2 and a half cm) thick. Sections thicker than that prevents the hot air from passing through.

• Unless you have curly hair, don’t apply products that add too much moisture to your hair – it’s guaranteed to get your style all curled up again.

Well, now that you know how to correctly straighten your hair, I will not keep you any longer. Go on – the world is waiting to see your new stunning style!
